DeepSeek Harness Desktop updates two related components independently: the native desktop application and the app-managed Harness core.

Desktop update

When a new signed desktop release is available, the updater can download the platform installer and guide the application restart. Save active workspace changes before installing an update.

Harness core update

At startup, the app compares the managed core with the latest deepseek-harness-pkg release. It can download a newer package without requiring a new desktop installer. If the network or GitHub is unavailable, the current core remains installed and usable.

Update safely

1

Finish active operations

Wait for commands and file writes to stop. Commit or stash important changes.
2

Read the release notes

Upstream Harness evolves quickly and may contain breaking behavior.
3

Apply the update

Update the desktop shell or managed core from its corresponding prompt.
4

Verify your profile

Reopen the app and confirm the active profile, plugins, and a test session work.
Do not delete application data as a routine update step. It removes managed runtimes and settings and can complicate recovery. Back up $DSH_HOME before destructive troubleshooting.
